Residence in Spain

Temporary residence of foreigners is the situation that authorizes them to remain in Spain, non-permanently, for a period of more than 3 months (stay) and less than 5 years (permanent residence).

The Initial authorization of temporary residence is valid for 1 year and may be renewed at the request of the interested party in response to the circumstances that motivated its granting.

The Administration may grant a temporary residence permit for foreigners for rooted situations, as well as for humanitarian reasons, for collaboration with Justice or other exceptional circumstances determined by regulation. In these cases, the visa will not be required.

In order to authorize the temporary residence of a foreigner, it will be necessary that he or she does not have a criminal record in Spain or in his previous countries of residence for crimes existing in the Spanish legislation and not appear as rejectable in the territorial space of countries with which Spain has signed an agreement in that sense.
